I love to read so I enjoyed this weeks questions 🙂

To participate…answer these questions and then post your responses on Kenlie’s blog, All The Weigh.

How often do you read for pleasure?

I TRY to read every night before bed, but lately just on my iPhone.  But on my days off I generally try to read a bit as well…but my intentions are better than my results.  I need to carve out more time for JUST reading since I like it so much!

Are you currently reading a book?  If so, which one?

Yes, I’m reading A Thread of Truth by Marie Bostwick.  It’s book two of a quilting series.  I don’t quilt, but I have read all of Jennifer Chiaverini’s quilt series books and then Kimm’s mom tipped me off to this author who also writes a quilt series.  I’ve read this book before, this is the second time.  I’m definitely one of those people who likes to read a favorite again!

Do you subscribe to any magazines and/or newspapers?

Yes, I receive Better Homes and Gardens and Critical Care Nursing (for being a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses).  But my favorite magazine to read is WAY too expensive to purchase…People.  I usually just read it when I go to the bookstore, or really quickly scan it when I’m in line at the grocery store!

Do you prefer reading traditional books or using an e-reader?

REAL books all the way!  There is NOTHING like the feel of a book in your hands and I love the different jacket covers, fonts, paper types.  Using a bookmark.  The smell of a new book.  How pages wear over time in a favorite book.

How often do you go to the bookstore?

Generally once a month. Barnes and Noble.  Wander for a good hour or so, picking out books I’d like to read.  Take them down to the cafe and browse through them while splurging on a Frappacino 🙂  Then I usually take pictures on my iPhone of all the books I want to read and request them from my local library!  If I really love them after that, I’ll put them on my “to buy” list.

Do you read at the gym?

Nope.  Can’t do it.  Being at the gym means working hard for a short, designated amount of time and I can’t do that while reading a book.  Not to mention I love reading, don’t love going to the gym so much, so I NEVER want to taint something I love with something I don’t really love!

Have you ever been a member of a book club?

Yes, way back when.  But I never really felt like I BELONGED to those people.  If that makes sense.  I didn’t feel like those people knew me or cared about me so it was kind of awkward.  I had joined through an old job.  It eventually fell apart.  But I would LOVE to be part of a book club again.  But know of none and the friends I have now are too busy for a book club 😦

Do you wear glasses when you read?

Yep.  I’ve worn them since 4th grade!  Can’t see without them!!

Have you read the Hunger Games?  And would you recommend it?

Yes, I did read the Hunger Games last year and absolutely loved it.  It was a definite page turner.  It had a unique storyline and compelling characters.  You WANTED to know what would happen.  Unfortunately I can’t say I felt the same love for the remaining two books of the trilogy…I thought the second book, Catching Fire, was okay and the third, Mockingjay, I could hardly get through but did just to find out what happened.  I think it got a little too complicated and strange towards the end.  But I still want to read the entire trilogy again to see if I feel the same way now, over a year later.  I DO want to see the Hunger Games movie that is coming out.

What is your favorite thing about reading?

The feeling that you can escape your own life for a little bit.  You can be the character you are reading about.  You can visit new places through words.  You can learn new things.  But I also really love the sense of familiarity with characters that you have re-read their stories so many times that they feel like family.

I’ve had some wonderful days off and today it is back to work.  It’s going to be a gorgeous week, temps in the 60s, near 70s all week!  The crocuses are popping up!!

I’m going to see if I have the determination to get to the gym this afternoon!!!

But I am definitely going to try to fit some reading in today 🙂

Here’s hoping for a great week for everyone!

  1. Came by from FMM. I too love fonts — yet another reason I’m more of a book person than an e-book person. I hadn’t even thought of that. And I really like your idea of snapping pics at a bookstore and then getting from the library. Reading the FMM responses really makes me think I should head back to the library. I used to go all the time growing up…

  2. There is really nothing like the smell of a new book. Do you use Good Reads at all? I like it mostly for keeping a list of books I really want to read, but know I’ll forget the title of by the time I am free to read them.

I hope you’re enjoying the day. It is gorgeous out there. We went on our first hike of the year and it felt like a summer day.

  3. I’m guilty of re-reading books multiple times! I must skim some pages, tho since I always find a passage that I’m sure I’ve never read before!

Stopping in fr FMM – Hi!
