Yikes…this month is just about done!

Time is just flying by.

12 hours of work done.

And I was able to drink 12 cups of water, one each hour.  That was my goal last night, to stay well hydrated.

And my calories were good…1722.

My goal is to do the same tomorrow…stay hydrated and stay in my calorie count.

For now I’m off to bed.  Perfect day to sleep…rainy!

Each day is a new opportunity

Friday, March 30, 2012

The scale was not my friend today.  Up 2.6 pounds.

So disappointing, especially after hoping for a loss with the low carb day yesterday.

BUT…

…even though I was mad and sad and ready to give up…

I didn’t.

I still have over a 15 pound weight loss since the beginning of the year and I don’t want to let it slip through my fingers.

Today is a new day and therefore I will just keep going.

Working on staying within my calories more for the next few days and I’ll weigh in again next week.

Spent the morning watching Dancing with the Stars (so sad to see Martina go!..it would have been nice to see her improvement from week to week but I guess that is the nature of the show).

I had my lovely English muffin breakfast (so happy for carbs in my life!), 1/2 a sweet potato for lunch and anxiously awaiting Chicken Parm for dinner!

Now off to take a nap…they eyes are tired.  Back to work tonight.

Carb cycling

Thursday, March 29, 2012

Today I did a low carb day.  Hoping that it will make a difference on the scale tomorrow.

I’ve been reading a bit about carb cycling (interspersing days of low carb with high/normal carb days).  Supposedly it will help amp up my metabolism again.  We shall see.

This is what I ate today…

Breakfast–two scrambled eggs in 1/2 tbsp butter with 1 slice American cheese, with 1/2 tbsp ketchup with one cup coffee with 2 Splenda and 2 tbsp half and half

Lunch–same as breakfast, minus the coffee and add in 1 string cheese and 14 almonds

Dinner–Taco Salad–1 and 1/2 veggie burgers with taco seasoning, spinach and lettuce, 1/2 a tomato, approx 3/4 cup shredded Mexican cheese, and approximately 3 tbsps Ranch dressing, 4 strawberries for dessert

Snack tonight–1 oz block cheese, 28 almonds and 2 tbsp peanut butter

Total carbs = 58 (-14 fiber) = 44 net carbs.

Most days I have over 200 carbs.

Of course the fat is really up today (144 gms) as well as the protein (108 gms).  But fat and protein do not affect insulin so I’m hoping to see at least some loss on the scale tomorrow.

If not, oh well.  I keep doing what I’ve been doing, which is counting calories.

This is my year.  It WILL happen, no matter how slow it takes.

Off to watch some Grey’s Anatomy.  Night all.

Get it done.

Wednesday, March 28, 2012

Sometimes you just need to buckle down and get things done.

Sometimes a project (even though it seems like something fun) may be overwhelming and thus you avoid it.

That’s what happened with a free photo book I had from Shutterfly.  I had gotten a coupon from Stop and Shop probably like over a month ago and kept meaning to use it, but then never did.  I would put a task on my calendar…”photo book” and then just keep moving it over to the next day.  Until today, when it had to be used.  And I didn’t want to waste it since it is expensive to order one of those photo books (close to $25!)  I think what was holding me back was having to go through all of my photos on the computer.  Anyone else just get overwhelmed with putting photos into proper folders???

Anyways, I just got it done.  It took me about 3 hours, but it was a creative outlet and the final product is very nice.  I can’t wait to receive it in the mail!

And then of course there was the never-ending laundry pile.

I had ZERO motivation to do that today.

But I just did it.  Two loads done.

And cleaning the house, I mean REALLY cleaning the house.  Who LIKES to do that?

Well Kimm and I both got that done since we were having a guest over.  She did all the vacuuming and I cleaned the bathrooms, dusted, did the dishes and swept the floors.  Everything looks much cleaner now.  It’s a good feeling.

And exercise?

I SO did NOT want to go to the gym today.

But I haven’t gone in QUITE a while.

So I just did it.

Weights at the gym and then home for a walk/run with Izzy.  I tired her out.  And me!

So for a day where I didn’t feel much like doing anything, I think quite a lot got done.

I hope the momentum continues for tomorrow.

Hot and Cold

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

It was COLD outside today!  Nothing like last week unfortunately.  But Izzy still managed to get her walk outside…she was a happy pup 🙂

Then we went to the mall to do some more sneaker shopping for Kimm and even without our jackets on inside, it was HOT.  I think they do it intentionally so that you want to buy something to drink!

No sneakers were found.

But we did buy candy for all of the Easter baskets (Kimm and I decided to do the Easter baskets this year!)

I can’t believe the day is already over.  Where does the time go?

I finished another book today (The Weight of Silence by Heather Gudenkauf) and it was really good, by the same author of another book I read earlier this year that was also really good (These Things Hidden).  I see that she has a new book coming out in June this year, One Breath Away, which is already on my “to read” list.

I did weigh in this morning and I was down another 1.2 pounds for a total of 19.2 pounds since January 1st.  I am happy that the weight is still coming off, but really wish it was faster.  I’m impatient.  I hadn’t weighed myself for over two weeks and 1.2 pounds is all I get.  Hopefully with some extra work, that will be better next time.

Good news!

Monday, March 26, 2012

I’m so happy!  Kimm has already got someone who is wanting to put in an offer on her first listing!!!! AND the people who are selling that place are also putting in an offer on a place that they love as well!!!

SO…if all goes well…fingers crossed…there could be a sell AND a buy in the near future and I KNOW that Kimm (and I) would be super excited about that!!

In other news, I also got through my last night of work!!

On to FOUR off 🙂

I feel like a little kid…there’s so much I want to do, I don’t know where to start 🙂

I guess for tonight I’ll just relax and make a plan.

Here’s to an awesome week!

By the way, I finished that book, Home Front by Kristin Hannah and it was SO GOOD.  Definitely one I’ll want to own eventually.

ONE

Sunday, March 25, 2012

I had one patient last night.  Not so bad.

So I was able to read over one hundred pages of my latest book, which is a real page turner (Home Front by Kristin Hannah).

And now I have only one more day to work before having four off 🙂

Off to bed!

Back to our normal schedule!

Saturday, March 24, 2012

Now today is more like our normal spring weather…60 degrees, a little overcast, a bit chilly.

Great weather for a walk with Izzy.  I could do without all the big fat buzzy bees that are all mixed up with this warm weather last week!  Oh yeah, those bees have already found me…they love to dive-bomb my head.

Oh this precious one day off went by so fast!  Had a good morning though…two loads of laundry done while watching last weeks episode of Survivor and the premiere episode of Dancing with the Stars.  What a great opener for DWTS!  When I first saw the star members I was like, “ahh, not too sure about this” but then after seeing them dance, “wow, there is some real talent here!”  Can’t wait to watch the remainder of the season.

A quick lunch and afternoon walk, balancing the checkbook and paying bills, and the day is pretty much over.

I plan to close my eyes, hopefully for a power nap…we’ll see what happens!

Enjoy your weekend.

Friday, March 23, 2012

I am VERY happily enjoying my one night off 🙂

Woke up from my sleep and made quesadillas for dinner.

Enjoyed a great after-dinner walk.  I know I’ve said it before, but I just LOVE walking after dinner.  It’s so peaceful and the sun is not bearing down on you.  The sun is going to set and it’s just a very peaceful time of day, a perfect time for reflection.  We walked for 36 min, about 2 miles, a different route than we usually do and it was just a really nice walk.  Izzy loved it, her tail was wagging and she was smiling and sniffing the whole time!

Back at home, sitting on the porch, catching up on blogs and listening to the sounds of the night…kids playing outside, cars on the main road, neighbors talking, dogs barking.

Plan for tonight is to watch a movie and you know what that means…poppycorn!!!

I feel EXTREMELY content at this moment.  I’m wishing everyone else feels that way too.  It really is the LITTLE things in life that  make life so great.

Long day…

Thursday, March 22, 2012

Oh, what a long day…started yesterday at 8 am when I got up and is just now ending at 9 am as I head to bed…

That’s over 24 hours up…ugh.

Stayed later at work because I attended one of the intensivist meetings which was pretty good.  The information was okay, but I was more there just to see the interaction with the intensivist with the other staff members.  And I think I learned a little about his style of communicating which is really what I was there for.  And then I spoke with my supervisor regarding an email I got about the vacations this summer.  I thought she was going to say there was an issue with one of the weeks but it turns out she just wanted to tell me I had about 6 hours left to use up by September.  Whew!  I was glad there was no problem with the vacations!

And then the drive home and a quick breakfast before bed.

I’ll be up in about 6 hours to repeat another busy night at work I’m guessing.

I hate that I’m missing such a beautiful day outside!
