Good-bye Christmas!

Operation Undo Christmas is accomplished!

The tree is down and out on the curb.  The mess we created doing that is swept up!

All the Christmas decorations are put away.  The house is back to its original configuration.

As much as I love Christmas, I also love the start of a new year.

Bring on tomorrow Baby!

End of the Year Musings

Friday, December 30, 2011

Oh blog, I have abandoned you, haven’t I?

Now here it is the day before the last day of the year and my hope was to CATCH UP on writing all the blog posts I had fallen behind on.

Mission, NOT accomplished.   And what a horrible feeling considering I would like to go in to the New Year with a fresh start and not with the thought that I have to write so many blog posts.

But then again I think to myself, why do I impose this RULE upon myself that I have to write a post every day.  Some days it is very hard, especially when I am working.  There’s not always a lot to say.  I’m just plain tired.

But anyways.  I will think about what I will do…just not now.

For now all I want to say is “WOW…where did this year go?”  I guess that old saying is true, “The days are long, but the years are short.”  While I mostly complain about work and dread going, and feel like it is taking up time that I could be spending at home, it is there that I spend a lot of my time.   But then again, it is only 36 hours of my entire week…a week that I have 168 hours!!!!   Crazy when you think about it like that.

I guess I am getting all kinds of philosophical at the end of the year.

Anyways…back to this post.

Hmmm…I slept all day and when I woke up I was STILL tired.  My eyes were burning and I was already thinking of when I could go back to bed!

Thus one of my new years resolutions is to get more sleep on my days off to catch up for on the days that I am working.

And talking about New Years Resolutions…I am taking a new approach this year.  Instead of a master list of goals that I write out at the beginning of the year, I’m going to attack the goals monthly and weekly.  To make them a bit more manageable.  To be able to revise what I want as the year progresses.  And I bought star stickers so I can visually reward myself 🙂

I will be sharing those goals throughout the year so stay tuned.

Tonight has been low-key–pizza for dinner and now computer time and then we are going to watch a movie.

The plan for tomorrow…Operation Undo Christmas–the tree and all the decorations are coming down.  It’s sad, but I also like the feeling of starting the new year FRESH.  So tonight I am enjoying the last night with the twinkling glow of the Christmas tree lights 🙂

I just want to say one more time…I can’t believe that another year has gone by.  Crazy how fast this life goes.

Here’s hoping everyone has a very wonderful New Year’s Eve day!

Last day of work for 2011

Thursday, December 29, 2011

Work last night was fine…no major issues.   Which is a good thing.

Now I’m ready for bed and can’t believe that tonight’s shift will be the LAST day of working for me in 2011.  Not back until January 1st…2012!!

Back I go…

Wednesday, December 28, 2011

My nice little three-day Christmas “vacation” is over today.  It’s back to work for me 😦

But I have to say I REALLY enjoy having three days off to celebrate Christmas!!

Even though today was my last day off, it definitely felt busy…but it always does when it technically is a 1/2 day off.

I managed to do some errands (vet, bank), call my mom, and re-organize my bookshelves.

I always feel more happy with my bookshelves spic and span and in a new order!  Plus it was fun to put away all the new books I got for Christmas and anticipating reading them in the future 🙂

Let’s hope work is not that bad…I’m in a good mood and I don’t want it to go away.

I can finally see the kitchen counter again!

Tuesday, December 27, 2011

Ahh…so nice to wake up and realize that you have another full day off 🙂

I am completely enjoying my days off after Christmas!

Today I had one major goal and I’m happy to say that I accomplished it!

Goal: Clear off all the clutter from the kitchen counter

The kitchen counter in our house just seems to be the place where we (meaning MOSTLY me!) “dump” everything…mail, things that need to be put away in the basement, coupons to go through, grocery bags to go back to the car, and now in the holidays…gifts that we’ve received that we’re not sure where the heck to put!

So it took a little bit of time, but I managed to get the entire counter clean and it is my intention to KEEP it that way.

(Believe me, I’ve tried this MANY times in the past, and though it seems like an easy goal…it is one of the first things to go when things get hectic.)

I guess we’ll see how it goes in the new year!

The rest of the day was more fun thankfully and involved a trip to the library, reading and watching a movie…just what I like!

Another day of Christmas!

Monday, December 26, 2011

I absolutely LOVED having another day of Christmas 🙂

Loved waking up and seeing the tree lit up with all of our wrapped presents underneath.

Loved enjoying a lazy breakfast.

Loved opening gifts and COMPLETELY surprising Kimm with THE BEST GIFT!!!

Can you guess???

I

got

her

A KEURIG!!!!!

We’ve been thinking of getting one for a while, but never did it and I thought it would be the perfect gift.

And it was 🙂

I also got a little holder for the K-cups and a re-usable filter if we ever feel like using grounds.

Can’t wait to use it!!

And Kimm was completely surprised…she said she NEVER even guessed what was in that big box 🙂

We both got lots of good gifts and then spent the remainder of the day lounging in our pj’s watching Christmas movies…It’s a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Story.

All in all a WONDERFUL day!

It’s HERE!!! (Christmas 2011)

Sunday, December 25, 2011

After another LONG and SLOW night at work, I finally escaped 🙂

Home to bed to sleep before the evening.  Thankfully I was able to sleep even though I was so excited.  Somehow I’m glad that even though I’m an adult, I still have an excitement about Christmas!

We had a VERY lovely Christmas at Kimm’s parents.

Super yummy dinner (corn, dilled carrots, cheesy broccoli casserole, stuffing, mashed potatoes, pearl onions, cranberries, rolls…and of course dessert…apple pie and ice cream!)  Mmmmmm!!!

Opening presents! (it was a tad bit different this year with no stockings, but honestly I didn’t miss it…however, I know that Kimm’s mom did so SOMEHOW, no matter what the financial situation next year…we will make it happen!)–everyone got lots of nice stuff 🙂

Enjoying the tree and decorations…love Christmas lights.

Watching a Christmas movie (Alvin and the Chipmunks…and napping for me and Kimm’s dad!)

It was over in a FLASH.

But…Kimm and I decided to do our Christmas the day after so we wouldn’t feel rushed…so I still have that to look forward to 🙂

Have I mentioned how much I love Christmas??

Getting closer!!

Saturday, December 24, 2011

Well, I made it through one night of work before Christmas 🙂

As I expected, it was S…L…O…W.  Painfully slow.  So slow that even reading a book didn’t make it go any faster.

There was lots of listening to Christmas music, playing Family Feud on the iPhone, reading blogs, making lists, and thinking about Christmas!!

Only one more day of work and then I’m off for THREE!!!

We’re almost there!

Friday, December 23, 2011

One of the downsides of working at a place that never closes is just that…IT’S ALWAYS OPEN 🙂 … and therefore I always have to work either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.   Even though I’d rather work the days before Christmas, rather than the day of and days after Christmas, there is still nothing very fun about going to work when most people are off and able to enjoy themselves.

So I’m just going to go and not think about it too much.  (on the upside…it’s usually pretty slow around the holidays…could be good or bad…good because you’re not rushing around like a maniac, but bad because the night drags!!)

I can’t wait for Christmas!!!

Christmas Party

Thursday, December 22, 2011

Today I went to my one and only Christmas party this year.

A few co-workers and I got together for food, games, and of course hospital gossip!  (I don’t think you can get people who work in a hospital together and NOT talk about all the news)

I made a hot spinach and artichoke dip which was so tasty with some bread wedges.  There was plenty of other good food too–mac and cheese, pierogi pasta, cheese and crackers, veggies and dip and for dessert–brownies and spice cupcakes.  To drink I made an old-time kid favorite–Shirley Temples 🙂  Very easy…just a bit of grenadine syrup (RED!) in a glass, topped with ginger ale and a maraschino cherry!  SO good.

We ended the night playing Pictionary on Wii.  There was lots of laughing involved!

As much as I sometimes DON’T want to leave the house, it was nice to have a fun night out.
