Plumber FAIL

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

So yesterday turned out to be a major disappointment.

We had made an appointment with the plumber that we had decided to use, for a follow-up to get a more detailed quote now that we had our homeowner’s insurance money in hand.

Well, let me explain more in detail.

He was scheduled to come at 10 am.  Of course I was sleeping because I had worked the night before, so Kimm was all set to meet with him.  By 10:40, with no plumber in sight, and no phone call, she called him.

Turns out he had FORGOTTEN the meeting.

And even worse…NO APOLOGY.  Basically he said, “What was the address again?  I’ll be there soon.”

So he came.

But then there were two additional majorly bad things that happened.  First, he stated that the bathroom would probably be about $1000-$2000 more than he originally quoted (with giving no real reason why).  Then he was super rushed and was basically WALKING OUT THE DOOR while Kimm was still trying to ask questions.  Can we say RUDE.

I didn’t like that at all.

He said he would send us a detailed quote by the next day.

Well, guess what…today is the next day and NO QUOTE.

So based on our negative feelings for him on this visit, we decided to try to find someone else.  I googled local plumbers in one of the surrounding areas, West Springfield, and happened to find one that was a family-owned business with a pretty nice website.

We decided to go for it.

Kimm called.  We have an appointment for next Tuesday.  I guess the guy only does estimates on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  And he charges $55 for an estimate (the only good thing is that if you end up using him for the job, then that money goes towards the bill–also he said he only does this fee for first time customers).  I’m not sure how I feel about the charge…I guess if he’s good, I won’t mind.  He must have to do something to weed out the people who call him for stupid stuff.  At this point I don’t really even care.  I just want to find a good plumber who is polite and will do a good job.  I hope he lives up to his website!

With such a stressful morning, we decided to have a more relaxing afternoon.

What better way to do that, than a Barnes and Noble run?

We had a lot of fun, looking through the books and enjoying our first Pumpkin Spice Latte of the season 🙂  Yumm!
