Why does it rain harder when you get OUT of the car?

Tuesday, April 19. 2011

Well, today would have been day one of the two-day critical care seminar I was initially planning on attending.  But I decided not to go (for many reasons, primarily the expense of the hotel and the casino where it was being held).   Instead I spent today driving around in the rain…literally!

Kimm had her follow-up to her follow-up for her left hand that she had carpal tunnel surgery on.  It’s doing a lot better which is good news.  She did mention to the doctor that her other hand (the right one) was causing her a bit of pain from all the numbness and lucky her, she got a cortisone shot.  The good thing is that this doctor did an AMAZING job…first lidocaine to numb the area and then the cortisone.  Not just a quick poke like that crazy, eccentric doctor she first went to.

After that we did some shopping:

Rocky’s–to return a small hand saw and then I picked up a bunch of SEEDS (!!) and some poles for beans/peas in the garden

Walgreen’s–to return the wrist blood pressure cuff that was not very accurate

Price Rite–$65 worth of food (lots of fruits and veggies and our beloved spaghetti sauce!), and 3 pots of tulips for $10–we are going to give two to our next door neighbor (long story)

Stop and Shop–staples like English muffins, bread, cream, dog food

Finally home where we put everything away…stuffed fridge and cabinets.  Ate leftovers for dinner–an amazing (new) meal that I made yesterday…Nacho Casserole.  SO GOOD.

To make:

Take one can of cheddar cheese soup and mix with 1/2 cup milk till smooth.  Spread half in bottom of 9×13 pan.  Top with 1/4 bag (14 oz) tortilla chips.  Top with 1/2 jar (14 oz) salsa of choice.  Top with 1 can refried beans.  Another layer of tortilla chips (1/4 of 14 oz bag), then the remaining cheese sauce and salsa.  Then sprinkle with 1 cup cheddar cheese.  Bake in 400 degree oven for 20 minutes.  Comes out bubbling.

Cool for 10 minutes…makes 4 servings.  We served ours with brown rice and sour cream.  Will DEFINITELY make this again!

Going to relax and watch another movie tonight.  Of course work called and wanted me to work 12 hours.  No to that!

This is my last night off…I’ll be on the next two so I want to chill.

Spaghetti Bush…GONE

Monday, April 18, 2011

Another day working hard in the yard.

Progress:  weird bush in front of our steps, the last one in front of the house, is now gone.

We don’t know what kind of bush it was, but it seriously looked like a bowl of spaghetti!

It only took us about 1/2 hour to cut down.

After that we attacked the side lawn…raked the whole thing…tons of fallen branches and leaves.  Took about 1 and 1/2 hours and boy does my body feel it.  Ibuprofen, you are my friend tonight.

Not sure when we’ll get to do more yard work considering rain is our forecast for the next few days.

the magnolia blooms are starting to come out!!
