1st Lawn Mowing of the Season

Saturday, April 30, 2011

So yesterday Kimm bit the bullet and mowed for the first time this year.

She had to…we were being overrun by the wild violets growing on our lawn (don’t go thinking these are good because of the pretty name!–they are just a weed!).  And those wild violets always bring the big, fat bumblebees!  Which I HATE.  So I’m so glad she mowed.  It looks tons better.

Not much else to report…just a VERY busy day at work…hourly blood sugars and trying to keep a man who was brain-dead alive till morning so that the family could make a decision whether or not to keep him alive.  Was so glad to come home and hit the sack.

Royal Wedding

Friday, April 29, 2011

Today, history was made.

Today, Prince William and Kate Middleton married!

And thanks to modern technology, LOTS of people (including me!) were able to watch it.

Aren’t they sweet?

There’s just something so MAGICAL about a royal wedding 🙂

BTW, what did you think of the dress?

Personally I didn’t care for it…I’m not a fan of lace arms and I didn’t like the bodice at all.  I just felt like she could have looked so much better…she’s absolutely gorgeous and I don’t think the gown did her justice.

Love Me Some Pizza!

Thursday, April 28, 2011

Wow.  This month is almost over.

Busy day…cleaned the bathroom…not my favorite chore but it’s done…went to a required meeting at work for 2 hours, came back home and…

It was so good…just basic store-bought dough, tomato sauce and mozz cheese…but all bubbly and hot and crisp…SO GOOD.  I was “yumm–ing” my way through the entire meal 🙂

Target was very dangerous for us tonight.  It always is.

Kimm got a watch, two pairs of shorts, a belt.

I got a watch, a t-shirt, and some socks.

Together we got a binder for recipes, a BP monitor, non-sweating water bottles for summer, and non-sweating smoothie cups.

It has been INCREDIBLY humid here for the past few days.  Like summer.  So disgusting in the house…everything is sticky.  Really makes me want some air-conditioning…but it’s only April for gosh sake!

Off to watch something on TV and have some popcorn.

Really getting excited for the ROYAL WEDDING tomorrow…I’ll be parked on the couch watching 🙂

The End of Hockey Season 2010-2011

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

At least for Kimm it is.

Her Montreal Canadiens lost tonight in Game 7 of the quarter-finals to the Boston Bruins, 3-4.

So now we’ll just have to see who wins the Stanley Cup.

I feel pretty accomplished today–grocery shopping, filed a bunch of stuff, washed the sheets, and made dinner.

Tomorrow we are planning a Target trip…watch out!

Stress Test

Tuesday, April 26, 2011

No, I’m not stressed!

Kimm had a stress test this morning and thankfully everything is okay.

So now hopefully this will be enough for the doctor who did the carpal tunnel surgery to be okay for doing the next surgery (she was concerned about the high heart rate Kimm had during the surgery…which we, meaning ME, know was probably caused by the Versed she got as a sedative…which we, meaning ME, knows has the opposite effect, due to her previous experience with other sedatives of the same class…doctors, when will they TRULY listen to their patients!)

Anyways, rant done.

The good news is that she’s fine 🙂

In other news, the Canadiens won the 6th game of the quarter finals and so get one last chance to beat the Bruins tomorrow night.  I hope they can do it!

While Kimm watched her team win tonight I finally watched the first two episodes of Glee (I know I’m TOTALLY behind the times) and I liked it.  Gotta love Netflix instant streaming 🙂

Off to eat a snack and watch some CSI before bed.  Want to get lots done tomorrow!

Oh my aching legs

Monday, April 25, 2011

Somehow I have this feeling that our spring/summer are going to be similar to last year…meaning a rainy/dreary spring followed by a hot/humid summer.  This morning walking to the car already felt sticky.

The hospital demons must have known that I had an indulgent meal yesterday for Easter–I was assigned a CBI (continuous bladder irrigation) that needed emptying OFTEN.  Meaning I was bending down, emptying the foley many, many, many times during the night.  In fact I would estimate that I bent up/down more than 100 times.  So needless to say, my legs are sore this morning.  Hopefully a good sleep will help.

I am SO ready to climb into bed.

Lazy, lazy, lazy day

Saturday, April 23, 2011

Slept in…check! (up at 10:30!)

Computer time…check!

Reading on the couch and a nap too…check!

What did we actually get done??

Well, we did…

…go to the library

…deliver tulips to our neighbor for Easter

…make dinner

…do dishes

…file stuff for 1 and 1/2 hours

That’s okay.  I figure it’s okay to be lazy on a gray, rainy, cold day.

Bee War

Friday, April 22, 2011

BTW…last night was good (i.e., uneventful) at work.  Just how I like it 🙂

The BEES will NOT win THIS year!

We had already noticed some wasps flying around outside the window of our office and so we called and made an appointment for a “bee removal/spray.”  They came today and sprayed the exterior of the house and the garage.  $250 and it’s guaranteed for 6 months so if we see any more bees, we can call them up and they will come out again.

Other than that, not much happened.  I slept all day.  We did watch a cool documentary about corn…King Korn.  If you get a chance to watch it, I would recommend it.  Very informative.  For example, did you know that 70% of the antibiotics in this country go to cattle to prevent them from getting so sick as they are fed a grain (corn) diet–basically eating that much corn causes them to have massive ulcers in their stomach, that could eventually make them die and that’s why there is such a rush to make the cows fat and then slaughter them.  All I have to say is that I’m glad I’m a vegetarian and I’m glad I don’t eat a lot of processed food (can we say hello high fructose corn syrup!)

Why don’t I trust my gut more?

Why do I let other people affect my mood so much?

Why can’t I have more confidence in my abilities?

Why can’t I be more witty?

Why am I so moody?

Why do I act so martyr-ish?

Why can’t I genuinely be happy for people and not feel insanely jealous?

Why can’t I be more happy with my life?

Why does it feel like I keep doing the same thing over and over?

Why is everything so DARN expensive?

Why am I always so tired?

(maybe all these pensive questions are a sign that I should not post after working 12 hours and being up for close to 24 hours!)

Some mantras for me to focus on…
