Spreading Christmas Cheer

Sunday, December 19, 2010

Today we went visiting our neighbors and delivering Christmas treats.

It’s our yearly tradition!

Even the doggies got included this year 🙂 (Notice the Milkbone treats!)

It’s nice being part of a neighborhood where you actually know the people.

I finished my stocking stuffer shopping for Kimm tonight.  Now all I have to do is WRAP.

Tomorrow I’m back to work–makes me not so happy because now starts the busy work of week…Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

Hope everyone has a wonderful week leading up to Christmas.

How are you going to spread some Christmas cheer??

Today, for the first time in my adult life I made my FAVORITE Christmas candy…Patience…and it was a SUCCESS!!

This makes me very happy.

Time involved: 2 hours.

Frustration level: high.

Final result: YUMMY.

What is patience?

It’s kind of like a fudge, but less creamy and more “melt in your mouth” and it is made from sugar, milk, and butter…so it kind of tastes a little like brown sugar.  It’s so good!

To make:

Place 1 cup sugar in heavy pot and stir continuously until it becomes syrupy (about 30 minutes).

Add 1 cup warmed milk slowly (it will cause the syrupy sugar to become hard–don’t fret!).

Now continue to stir the milk/sugar mixture until the hard candy becomes dissolved again (about 20 minutes or so).

Now add 2 cups of sugar and another cup of milk and 1/2 stick of butter and 1/8 teaspoon salt.  Stir until dissolved and then boil until soft ball stage (238 degrees), occasionally stirring (about 30 minutes).

When it gets to soft ball stage, remove from heat and stir continuously until it starts to thicken (about 15 minutes) and then pour into an 8×8 inch pan lined with wax paper.  Store in a cool place for at least 8 hours and cut.

That’s it…all you need is a little patience 🙂

Today I went to see The Nutcracker…it was good!  I just wish our seats were closer!

Then I ate my first Vietnamese food…it was pretty good…kind of like Chinese but a little fresher and the sauces were hotter!

Ended the night with a spiked hot chocolate and spiked hot apple cider catching up with my nursing friends.  I miss them 😦

Now off to bed…thank goodness.  Tomorrow will be busy…delivering candy, shopping and wrapping.  Christmas will be over in one week.
