I NEED this vacation.

Saturday, August 21, 2010

Hello all.

That’s right, it’s the first day of my second vacation this summer.  I’m not used to having all this time off.

But I SO need it.

Last night at work was a teeny, tiny bit stressful (meaning I may have lost my cool, been very cranky/grumpy/passive aggressive) and I left work with a headache and tears threatening to fall.

So what is a girl to do?

A phone call to mom to vent and a Smirnoff Ice for breakfast.  That’s right.  I roll with the big ones.

After crawling into bed, sleeping soundly all day, and then waking up and venting again to Kimm, and even letting those tears escape (seriously, WHY do I care so much about a place that cares nothing about me???), I was ready for the vacation to begin.

And what better way to begin vacation than…PIZZA!

We got our fave–simple cheese with a side of fries.  It was so yummy.  Enjoyed with a marathon of Gossip Girl.  Season 2–done.  So we are all set for purchasing GG Season III that is released on Tuesday.  And knowing us, if we get through Season Three, then we will be set to watch Season Four this fall.  I love having new TV shows to watch 🙂

And, just because we can, we got ice cream as well.  We may or may not have any tonight, but it’s there if we do!

It’s going to be a GOOD week off.

Night all.

Little League Baseball

Friday, August 20, 2010

Yup, it’s that time of year again…Little League World Series.

So Kimm is all excited 🙂  So far CT won a game, which she was happy about.  I have to admit it’s really pretty cool to see these little kids so committed to a game.  In a world where a lot is wrong, this is just right!

I’m heading to work tonight for my last night before vacation.  I’m only guessing that it will be tough.  I’ve been called to come in extra almost every night I had off and they called and asked if I would come in four hours early today as well.  So I’m HOPING for an okay night.  I’m trying to stay positive!

Hope everyone has a great night.

Thursday, August 19, 2010

We were going to go visit Kimm’s friend today but since we both felt under the weather (darn allergies) we stayed home.

Enter…LAZY day.

I was glad I had the chance to finish my book 🙂

I saw this on another blog and thought it was great and I wondered what my answers would be.  I guess today I will find out as I put down my initial thoughts.

If the clock were set back 60 minutes from right now, I would…peruse through my library books.

If work were canceled today (or tomorrow!) and I had the day off, I would…cook something special for breakfast, lunch and dinner–with dessert!

If there was a hospital strike and the whole week were canceled, I would…paint the porch.

If I were granted a one year paid leave of absence right now, I would…get another job to earn money in order to have enough to have a whole year off when I had a baby.

I’m sure my answers would change even a week from now.

What about you…what would you do in those situations?

Only have to work one day and then off for a week!!

Dinner Guests

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Tonight we had Kimm’s parents over for dinner.

The food was GOOD.

On the menu:

Alfredo Vegetable Lasagna

Garlic Bread

Lemon Crunch Pie

Red Wine (yup Frank, the Reunite!)

The company was good too!

It was fun to catch up with them.  Although I have to say that I was feeling QUITE sleepy after that carb heavy meal.  There may have been a point after dinner when my eyes closed.  But I don’t feel so bad–Kimm’s father was sleeping for a while there as well 🙂

I don’t know where the day went!  It seems like I just got up!

I don’t think I’ve said it yet, but only one day to work before my next vacation starts!!

These are a few of my favorite…

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

Since I didn’t do too much today (slept until 4:30–hello first day off of work!), I figured I would share with you some of my favorite blogs.  Usually on my first day off I don’t do too much just because I’m still tired (even though I slept all day!).  But I generally always get caught up on my favorite blogs that have accumulated over the days that I worked.  I’m always on the lookout for new blogs to read, but there are always the ones that you can’t wait to read.

Here’s the list (in no particular order):

Peas and Thank You

Healthy Tipping Point

The Front Burner

Kath Eats Real Food

Young House Love

Carrots N’ Cake

Iowa Girl Eats

Peanut Butter Fingers

The Inner Workings of a College Graduate

Wow, that just happened to be ten blogs.  Strange.

I would highly suggest checking these blogs out, especially if you are in to healthy eating/living, as the majority of these blogs are categorized as Healthy Living blogs.

So I did do a few other things today–we went to the library (new books!), made dinner (baked potatoes with butter and sour cream, yummm), and now we are going to watch some Gossip Girl with a snack.  Then bed–oh comfy bed I can’t wait to climb in 🙂

I’m so tired right now my mind is drawing a blank.

I can think of nothing to say 😉

So good night!  I can’t wait to fall asleep 🙂

Sunday, August 15, 2010

It’s cloudy outside–dark and gloomy.  And I have to admit, my mood is a bit today too.

Not sure completely why.  Maybe because I have to go back to work tonight.  It’s not that I hate work 100 percent–usually once I get there, I’m fine, and the time generally goes by fairly fast.  I just don’t LOVE my job.  And that’s kind of sad.  Oh well.

Not to mention, I synced my iPhone today and that took FOREVER.  Seriously Apple, you need to get with the program.  It should not take that long to sync anything.  Then I was going to update to the newest version, but it is taking EVEN LONGER than the syncing.  So long in fact that after an hour I thought it was stuck and undid it.  Then tried again and am having similar issues.  Even rebooted my computer and tried again.  But now I have completely run out of time since I have to get in the shower soon and make dinner.

The other thing that happened was that Charlie attacked Madeline today.  Not exactly sure why.  Not sure if Izzy spooked Madeline while Charlie was by her, but all of a sudden we heard snarling and growling and meowing and hissing and we could hardly get Charlie to stop trying to attack Madeline.  Boy, and to think that happened BEFORE coffee.  Very stressful.

Can you believe I’m actually wearing socks today my feet are so cold?   Crazy.

Tonight on the menu–pierogies and broccoli 🙂

Adios all.  Have a good end to the weekend.

All I can say is…I hope my day at home doesn’t foreshadow my night at work.

I am on a roll!

Saturday, August 14, 2010

Today was another one of those “A-ha!” days in regards to computer related stuff.

I don’t know about you, but I’m not very computer savvy.  I mean, I can navigate around the Internet, send email, check my blogs, write a blog, write documents and create spreadsheets, but NOTHING fancy-schmancy. Everything I’ve learned, I’ve learned on my own.  I’ve never taken a computer class.  So I feel pretty good about what I know.

today I know even more!!

Ever since I’ve changed my email over to Gmail, I’m just a crazy woman, trying to learn all I can about the features available to me.  So today I played around with the Calendar feature and I LOVE it.  Especially since Kimm and I can share calendars so I know what’s going on with her.  And I could also incorporate the hockey schedule for this fall as well so I know when Kimm will be occupied with that.  Then I also did a little with Google Docs, so I can work on documents from any computer.  All good.  And of course there was more picture uploading to Shutterfly.  Boy, I was on the computer for a good portion of the day!

Back to work tomorrow.  Only three days more this week before my next vacation 🙂

I’m a happy girl.

Night-time Naps

Friday, August 13, 2010

Just for the record…night-time naps are so nice 🙂

Today just flew by and yet hmmm…what did Ido?

Well, the cats had their yearly vet appointment.  Charlie lost 1.2 pounds–his teeth are decaying quite a bit and most of the teeth have gum growing over the tooth to help protect the tooth–eventually the teeth will probably break off.  The vet states that he may have some more discomfort with eating…we’ve noticed he definitely has been eating slower, but still runs to his food bowl every time!  We could make an appointment for the teeth to be broken off down to the gum line, or eventually in time, this will happen all on its own.  I think we will leave things up to Mother Nature at this point, as long as he doesn’t seem to be in too much pain or lose too much weight.  As far as Madeline–well she GAINED 1.4 pounds!  Turns out that the monthly antibiotic we have been giving her has made a big difference…the inflammation around her gums look much better and judging by her increased weight, it’s not as painful for her to eat.  The year prior when she was having all these problems, she had lost almost 5 pounds.  So she’s in much better shape.  We’ll just have to watch them closely when they eat–Madeline is feeling so much better that she eats fast and then heads over to Charlie’s dish!  She’s a sneaky one, all right!

We also took a trip out to Target.  Kimm had her heart set on a belt she had seen last time we were there and she was just kicking herself for not getting it.  Thankfully it was still there 🙂  She also managed to pick up another pair of shorts and a t-shirt.  No such luck for me!  We also picked up some Melatonin to start giving Izzy.  We asked the vet about what to do about her being so afraid during storms.  He said that we could start giving her one pill (3 mg) per day to see if it helps.  Supposedly it is a hormone that will raise the levels of serotonin and thus help her stay more calm.  We shall see.  He said that the problem with anti-anxiety meds is that when a storm comes about the dog usually gets excited/fearful right away and the medicine takes a while to work, and many times the storm is past at that point.  Makes sense.  So I’m hoping this works.

I worked some more on Shutterfly–uploading more pictures.  I’m obsessed 🙂

Watching some Gossip Girl and bed soon.  Can’t wait for Season Three of GG which comes out next month!!

Summer’s fading…

Thursday, August 12, 2010

There’s just something in the air.  You can tell it’s the end of summer and not the beginning any longer.

Dusk is upon us sooner; it’s completely dark by 8:30 where as at the height of summer we’d have light until 9 pm or later.

But, it’s okay.  I’m ready for fall.  It is my favorite season, even though it leads into winter.

I’m sitting here listening to the insects outside and thinking, “I’m so happy.”

LOVE my days off 🙂
