Peanut Monster

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

Kimm and I just got back from a quick trip to the store, but apparently that was PLENTY of time for Izzy to get into some shelled peanuts that Kimm had received from our neighbor so she can feed the squirrels.  She ate quite a few.  There was a trail of peanut shells from the basement up to the kitchen.  Who knows what that will do to her poop tomorrow!

Anyways, it was a non-exciting first day off as usual–sleeping mostly.

That’s okay because we are in the middle of another heat wave–in the upper 90s today.  So sleeping in AC is not so bad 🙂

We’re planning on watching a movie tonight.

Hard to believe it is the last day of August, right?

Feet Up

Monday, August 30, 2010

I can FINALLY relax and put my feet up.

What WAS I thinking, hoping that work would not be that bad?

Even though it was pretty good until 5 am, those last two (or should I say three) hours were BAD.  Yup, I stayed until after 8 am.  But I DID call and get OT.

Why do they always wait until 5 am to give you an admission????

I was so tired driving home.  And I am so glad to be going to bed soon.

**Finding a new pair of jeans for this winter

Last day of vacation, 2010

Saturday, August 28, 2010

Technically I still have half a day tomorrow on vacation, but really, it’s over for me tonight.  I never completely feel relaxed on a day that I have to go in to work 😦

But, I am in the moment!

It WAS a GOOD day.

Went through even more paper stuff!  Finally let go of all my notes from nursing school.  Liberating!!  Two huge stacks of paper–GONE!  Kimm even got into the mood and went through a bunch of stuff as well.

Got a haircut and colored my hair.  The haircut…ehh.  Still have not found someone whom I really TRUST with my hair or that makes a great impression on me.  But at least it’s shorter and a tad more manageable.  I will keep searching.  The hair color…loving being able to do it myself for only about $6 (thank you $2 off coupon!).  I had spotted QUITE a few gray hairs so it was much-needed.

Had wonderful meals–mashed potatoes and mixed veggies for lunch, black bean/corn/tomato/onion/avocado salad for dinner.  Definitely got our quota of veggies in today.

Gossip Girl on the agenda for tonight.  With some poppy-corn and a drink.

Two days on to start this week and I really am determined to try to pick up 8 extra hours.

BTW, can you BELIEVE that it is completely dark now by 8 pm?  So sad to see the long days of summer leave…

The end is coming…

Friday, August 27, 2010

The end to my vacation.

The end of summer.

But enough thoughts of things ending…I am determined to savor the moment!

Today was such a nice day.  I really enjoyed it 🙂

Slept in and took the pooch for a walk per usual.

Then Kimm mowed the lawn–it took her 2 and 1/2 hours!  While she did that I ATTACKED more STUFF.  Got rid of a lot more.  Very liberating.

But there’s still more!  That’s because now I am making sure that there is a place and a purpose for everything I keep.  So it takes a bit longer.

Tacos for dinner!  Chocolate ice cream with brownies for dessert!  Gossip Girl!

How could this night get any better?

Perhaps an adult beverage before bed 🙂

Tomorrow is going to be a great day!!  I can just feel it in my bones.

Thursday, August 26, 2010

I had a goal today and that goal was to go through the stuff in both my bookcases and the JUNK in front of it…believe me, it was a lot.  I just wanted to feel more organized, get rid of the stuff/junk I did not need, and feel that sense of “ahh” when you have less stuff cluttering up an area.

Well.  I did get through the bookcases and they are organized pretty well I think.  I got rid of a LOT of books.  I decided to keep only books that I LOVE and will actually read over again.  I’m happy about that.

But there was still that STUFF that was hard to make decisions about.  The stuff that I felt attached to, even though I don’t know why.  The stuff from my past.  The stuff that has memories attached to it.  The stuff that needs to be filed (I think!).  The stuff that just doesn’t have a home.

And that is the stuff that made me feel overwhelmed and discouraged folks.

I give a lot of credit to people who can just chuck out stuff that they know they won’t use or need.  Me, I have to mull over everything and therefore it takes so long to go through everything.   And that’s why I still have all this stuff YEARS later.  I can’t ever remember not having a pile of stuff to file/go through/get rid of/take action on.

I feel I am an organized person, but I really don’t think I am.  I think I could be, if everything was organized right now.

But I know I get overwhelmed if I do too much in one day.  So I think that I’m REALLY GOING TO TRY to go through just a small pile every day.

I want this to work.

So I shall attack the piles again tomorrow.

A-huntin’ we will go…

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

Spent a good portion of today looking for new desk chairs for our new office desks.

Let me tell you, it’s not very easy to find inexpensive, comfortable chairs.

But we have not given up.  The hunt is on!

How did we spend the rest of our day…

Barnes and Noble–with Mocha Coconut Frappacinos!! (and I got a book…Kimm was good and decided to get hers at the library)

Price Rite–$20 on some groceries

Pier One–we happened to find some clearance small bowls to hold change

Gossip Girl 🙂

Tomorrow we have plans to do some organizing.  I’m looking forward to it.  I’m thinking I may finally get rid of all those old papers from nursing school.  I told Kimm today, “I haven’t looked at that stuff ONE TIME in THREE YEARS since I graduated, so I think I can finally let it go.”  But it’s SO HARD for me.

Is there anything that is hard for you to let go??

New Stuff!

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

The day has arrived.  Gossip Girl Season 3 on DVD was released today and guess who was impatient and got a copy already?

That’s right…US.  And we’ve already watched one episode and intend to watch more this evening 🙂

I still LOVE watching new TV!

And wait.  The fun does not stop there.  We made more purchases at our favorite, Target.  They had jeans on sale for back-to-school.  Kimm made out like a bandit–three pairs of jeans, $15 each, and two pair of cargo pants, $25 each.  I was not quite so lucky in number, but I love what I got—one pair of jeans for $20.  PLUS…we got our new desks for the office.  We’ve known what we wanted for quite a while but we were just waiting for a good sale.  And today was that day–$25 off.  So two desks for $150.  NOT BAD BABY!  Now we just have to assemble them.  That will be me, not Kimm.  Guess who has more patience? 🙂

We also got a treat today.  McDonald’s Vanilla Shakes!  Haven’t had those in like FOREVER.  Just had a craving.  Totally satisfied.

Off to watch GG.

Sweet and Salty

Monday, August 23, 2010

Today we had a fun date–at the movies.  We went to see Salt.  I highly recommend it–suspenseful, action-packed, and of course, Angelina–a perfect combination.  I love that I didn’t predict the ending!

The up-side…we had free movie tickets!  The down-side…what is up with the price of popcorn and soda???  Seriously, $11 for a medium popcorn and large drink!!!  CRAZY.

Afterward, I made us a sweet treat.  Oatmeal-raisin-walnut bars.  Basically the same recipe as for the cookies, but I thought not as good.  I think when baking with oatmeal you really need them to be in cookie shape so they get a little crisp on the outside.  Not a total failure like the tofu, but still, not the best I’ve ever made.

All in all, a fun day 🙂

Tofu Fail

Sunday, August 22, 2010

It’s been raining non-stop all day.  One of those nice, all-day drizzles.  Perfect for staying nice and cozy inside 🙂

I’ve been reading–The Aloha Quilt by Jennifer Chiaverini.  I like it.

And I tried something new for dinner.  Tofu.

We LOVE our Sesame Tofu when we get Chinese take-out, and I’ve been reading about people making baked tofu on blogs for quite a while, so I figured I would try it.

Well…we DID NOT like it.

I drained the tofu for 20 minutes by pressing it between paper towels.  Then cut it and basted it with BBQ sauce.  It smelled so good!  But the taste.  Not so much.  It was the texture too–kind of rubbery.  The kind we get when we order out is fried…NO WONDER it’s so much better 🙂

Well, at least we tried.  I think we’ll stick to our beloved veggie burgers for our soy.

At least we had ice cream for dessert.  Ice cream makes EVERYTHING better 🙂
