GOR-GEOUS!

Wednesday, June 30. 2010

What an absolute wonderful day for the last day of June!

I love 70s and breezy.  All the windows are open.  The temp in the house is down to 74 🙂

Hopefully it will get even cooler before this stretch of hot, humid weather I see on The Weather Channel starts up again.

Chores today…me the bathrooms and Kimm vacuuming.

I think I really detest cleaning the bathroom, although I love the feeling and sight of a freshly cleaned bathroom.

What chore do you hate the most??

I’m hopping into the shower before work.

Here’s hoping for a good night.

Relief at Last!

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

Okay, I am THRILLED that the heat wave has broken today 🙂

I never thought I would be so happy to feel a bit chilly!  It’s in the lovely 70s currently, and there is a wicked nice breeze–all the windows are open and the house is airing out!

Not much going on.

I did go to my dentist appointment and get this–NO cavities.  The sore spot on my left side is being caused by a crack in my tooth where an old filling was.  So they are going the most conservative route–taking out the old filling and completely covering the crack as well.  If that doesn’t work, next step is a crown.  I’m really hoping option one works.  The dental hygienist and dentist were both extremely nice.  The cleaning hurt more than I remember!  I think it’s because they use the sonic water cleaner under the gums and it creates an uncomfortable sensation while it is cleaning.  Thankfully it didn’t hurt after it was done.  I have the filling scheduled for the 7th of July–just wanted to get it over with.  All in all they told me I have “good dental hygiene.”  Not bad for not going to the dentist in over a year.  Now I’ll have to use all that insurance.

Plans for tomorrow–Target, vet, grocery store, work.

I’m coming up on my not so nice portion of my work schedule.  If I get through this, I’m golden…thinking about my one week off at the end of the month.  Not to mention, five weeks of pay in July.

More hotness

Monday, June 28, 2010

When it’s this hot (89, feels like 95) you really don’t feel like doing much of anything.

We did get out today to Home Depot and bought our ceiling fan for the porch (only $89!) as well as two window fans to try to suck out the hot air from inside the house at nighttime.  Of course that would probably work better if it actually cooled down at night.  It is still 86 in the house.

The only relief is air conditioning at bedtime 🙂

In other news…I actually called and made a dentist appointment!  For a place close in town that has had several good reviews from people I know.  Luckily enough I was able to get in for tomorrow.  Now I just have to wait and hear the damage.  I’m guessing at least two cavities.  My coverage is only for $500 per year so I’ll get what I can done this year and save the rest for next year if it goes over.  Fun, fun.

I tried calling to get an appointment at the foot doctor but unfortunately they are out of the office until July 5th.  So I’ll call then.

Watching Season Five of Weeds.  Only one more disc left and then we will have to find something else to watch 😦

Tomorrow is supposedly going to be the last of the insanely hot, humid days.  We’ll see.

We have a trip to the nice air-conditioned Barnes and Noble scheduled for tomorrow night.  Can’t wait!

The Hot Weather Continues…

Sunday, June 27, 2010

I feel like a wet noodle.

It is SO HOT.

I remember it being warm last year for about two stretches–one in May and then again in August.  But this year is just SWELTERING.

Thank goodness for the air conditioner in the bedroom.  I don’t think I could last if that wasn’t there.

It will be VERY nice when we get the fan for the office and front porch.

But for now, lots of water and not doing much.

Back in the Saddle Again…

Saturday, June 26, 2010

A nice long break from work was over way too soon 😦

When I came back last night, it was like I had never left!

It’s kind of like riding a bike–you never forget how.

The night was not that bad–started with two patients and then got an admission so I had three during the night.  No major issues, thank goodness.

The hot weather kind of broke a bit…this morning it is in the 60s!

One more night on and then three off 🙂

Food Budget Success

Friday, June 25, 2010

Today Kimm and I went grocery shopping to last us until July 2nd.

Unless there is a food “emergency” (i.e., run out of milk or bread) we will be set.

And we did it again…we were under our food budget!

We budget $300/month and the last two months we were under.  Last month we were under by about $50 and this month by about $30.

We’ve been doing so much better since we’ve been paying cash for food.  We take out $300 at the beginning of the month and then just use that money throughout the month.  It’s easier to say “no” to something when you actually see the REAL money leaving your hand.

We hope to eventually bring our budget down, but everything keeps rising in price.  So that means more creativity with inexpensive meals.  Maybe next month we’ll try for $280??

Back to work tonight.  I hope it won’t be too bad.

Sizzlin’ Hot

Thursday, June 24, 2010

Another hot, humid and sticky day.

A day for basically doing nothing.

Izzy had her shortened walk in the morning and then into the “still-cool-from-the-overnight-air-conditioning” bedroom she goes.  It helps her heaps.   She loves to lay down on the cool wood floor.

Read today (Jodi Picoult’s newest–“House Rules”) and watched TV (Jillian Michael’s Losing It and Weeds).

Computer time.

Just sitting mostly.

Back to work tomorrow.

At least it’s air conditioned 🙂

Farmville

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

I’m an addict.

I thoroughly admit it.

I farm daily on an imaginary farm in order to earn coins, points, and prizes.

My latest venture…obtaining “Mastery” for all the crops that are offered…meaning they must be planted MANY, MANY, MANY times.  Each crop takes a certain amount of time to grow and if not harvested in time will wither and all coins/work are lost.

It is a stressful game in a way.

How ironic that I use it in order to de-stress 🙂

I know that it takes me away from “real” life, but it is so addicting 🙂

Are you a Farmville addict too?

p.s.  I have to say though…I have NEVER spent REAL money to buy anything on Farmville.  So I’m not as bad as I could be.

We’re still suffering 90 degree days here…hot and humid.

Can’t wait for a break.

Happy 66th Birthday Mom!

*postdated for Tuesday, June 22, 2010

Happy Birthday Mom 🙂

66 years…WOW.

I know I don’t feel like I’m 37 so I can’t even imagine what it’s like to not feel 66!

In 1944, the year my mom was born…

**The average cost of a new house was $3,450

**Average wages per year were $2400

**The cost of a gallon of gas was 15 cents

**A loaf of bread cost 10 cents

**Franklin D. Roosevelt becomes the only president to be elected for a 4th term

**The GI Bill of Rights was passed

**The CIA was formed

**Kidney dialysis and sunscreen were invented

**15-year-old Anne Frank is captured and sent to a concentration camp

Don’t you find history fascinating?

Mom…I love you and wish you a year filled with happiness.  I miss you.

First Day of Summer 2010

Monday, June 21, 2010

We have a heat wave again.

How appropriate for the start of summer 🙂

I spent the majority of my day sleeping in the air conditioning.  It was LOVER-LY!

I’m on another stretch of 4 days off.  I’m going to thoroughly enjoy them!

Hope everyone is enjoying the start of another season.  Is it hot where you are??
