Status: Good

I had a really GOOD first night on.

Sure, I had two admissions, but all my patients were pleasant and oriented–this makes a HUGE difference folks!

I don’t know, but I really just enjoyed working last night.  This feeling does not come often so I relish it when it does.

One more night tonight.  Let’s hope it goes just as well.

Then I can plan for our Memorial Day picnic meal 🙂

Unlike the majority of people who work…I am not getting ready for a nice long weekend.  Instead, I’m working the next two days.  But I am happy that I have Memorial Day off.

Sometimes I wish I had a more normal schedule like other people!

But then I remember that I only work three days a week and I’m quite content.

Getting ready to eat dinner…homemade mac and cheese.  You can never go wrong with that.

Hope everyone who has a long Memorial Day weekend gets time to have lots of fun with loved ones.

A big “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” to my nephew Eric who turned NINE yesterday.  Bad auntie for forgetting on the actual day!

Sorting again

Thursday, May 27, 2010

Today was one of those days where we didn’t have much planned.  We ended up having our coffee after our walk this morning and just relaxing.  It was nice.  The weather was so much nicer today…breezy 🙂

But this afternoon and later this evening was anything but relaxing.  We SORTED.  Stuff in the office.  Stuff in Izzy’s room.  Got rid of a lot.  But still have more to go through.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it now, and I’m sure I’ll say it again.  Stuff can weigh you down.  There’s something so FREEING about getting rid of stuff you don’t need.  Not to say there are not memories attached to stuff…sometimes a lot of good memories.  But having space to spread out is nicer.  Makes you take a deep breath and smile.

We have more sorting to do tomorrow.

In other news…our garbage disposal bit the dust.  So that will need to be replaced.  As you probably guessed…Kimm is researching them out and has already picked out a good one for us…inexpensive, but rated well.

Back to work tomorrow.

It Feels Like a Sauna…a NEVER-ENDING Sauna…

Wednesday, May 26, 2010

It’s hot.  Really hot.

We have made it through most of the day.  But it’s still steaming.

We finally were able to open the windows because the temp went down slightly.  But it’s like still hot air.  It’s HORRIBLE.

I’m hoping things are better tomorrow.

We haven’t put the air conditioner in the bedroom yet because this spell will probably pass quickly and we don’t want to not be able to open the window in the bedroom once we put the AC in.  So we hold off until absolutely necessary.  But I’m going to miss it tonight.

Plans for tonight…ice cream and Nurse Jacky.  We finally finished watching Gilmore Girls again (love that show!) and have started something new.  We like it.

Okay.  Time to take the hot laptop off my lap.

Izzy’s Treat

Tuesday, May 25, 2010

We’re having some warm weather folks.  Over 90 degrees today.

Thankfully, since we can’t afford central air, we’ve learned the trick of keeping the windows and the curtains closed during the hot portion of the day, and airing out the house at night when it gets cooler.

We decided a little treat for ourselves was in order tonight…just because 🙂

We headed to the store and got our fave–Ben and Jerry’s Half Baked (chocolate ice cream with brownie pieces and chocolate chip cookie dough).

We also picked up a treat for Izzy too!

Presenting her new favorite treat…

Seems like she likes it 🙂

It’s supposed to get up to 95 degrees tomorrow.  Yikes.  Good thing we still have some ice cream left!

12 hour stomach ache

Monday, May 24, 2010

I had the worst stomach ache my ENTIRE shift long last night.  And it was a tough night.  I had busy, hard patients and I got an admission at 5:45 am.  It pretty much sucked.  I could not wait to get home and of course I got out late.

I really hope tonight is better.  I can’t feel like this another night.

Basically I think I ate too much fiber yesterday and it was really upsetting my stomach.  Hopefully it wears off while I sleep.  I can’t wait for my head to hit the pillow.

Nap Failure

Sunday, May 23, 2010

I didn’t sleep very well last night.  Lots of tossing and turning and my back was killing me…there’s some kind of nerve pain going up my back lately.  Arghh.

So I was awake by 8:30 and so was Kimm.  So we decided to get up and start the day, figuring that a nap would be easy to fit in this afternoon.

I should have known better.

We did go on our walk, we had breakfast (blueberry muffins I had made yesterday!), and went to the gym.  I did the dishes, cleaned the bathrooms, and had lunch.

But when I attempted to take a nap.  Nope.  Didn’t work.

I don’t know if it’s because it’s so muggy?  Or because Madeline was being a pain (dropping things off the dresser)?  Or that I was thinking too much?

Regardless, the nap did not happen.

So here I am, exhausted and having to go in for a 12 hour shift.

Not an ideal situation.

Oh well.

It’s been done before.  At least I should sleep well the next day.

Busy week coming up…Kimm has a doctor’s appointment she wants me to come to on Tuesday, then we have her friend coming for a visit on Wed, I want to plant the garden on Thursday, and I’m back to work on Friday and Saturday.

Bottom of the Bag

Saturday, May 22, 2010

I just finished up the end of a bag of pita chips for a snack.  Anyone else love the little pieces that get smashed at the bottom of the bag?  Yummy 🙂

Tonight is my last night “off.”

Darn, why do days off go by so fast???

Today I went grocery shopping and spent about $95.  So that means for the month so far we are at $195–over $100 UNDER budget.  We still may need to get some milk or bread, but this is the last trip of the month!  Wow.  I’m amazed we did it.  We just did a lot of cupboard meals (whatever you find in the cupboard!).  I’m much better at this than Kimm, obviously 🙂  She usually says, “We have nothing left to eat” but we have lots.

Good deals this week.  Kimm’s Honey Nut Cheerios–Buy Two Get One Free plus I had a coupon for $1 off, then avocados were $1 each!

Anyways, I hope I sleep better tonight.  Last night I was exhausted but it took FOREVER for me to fall asleep and I woke up feeling not rested at all.  So tonight should be better.

I’m trying to determine if I should work extra this week.  The extra money would be nice in the paycheck.  But then I would have to be at work instead of home.  Hmm….

First Day Blues

Friday, May 22, 2010

Working the overnight shift sure reeks havoc with your days off.  Every time it is my first “day off”–meaning I worked the day before, 7 p to 7 a, and then have the next night off–I’m ALWAYS tired.  Today I was extra tired because I got up early so that a co-worker could pick up an office desk and chair that we were giving her.  Combine that with eating a filling dinner…I was SO sleepy.

I tried to take a nap.  But of course I couldn’t nap because I knew that I wanted to get up shortly and do something.  It was so frustrating.

We did eventually get to do something fun together.  We took a trip to Barnes and Noble because Kimm found a coupon online for a BOGOF Frappacino.  Bonus!  Those things are expensive.  I ended up buying one book…nerd alert…it was a book for work (Rapid ACLS–Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support–I have to go in the fall to get certified and there’s a lot of info so I thought I’d get a heads up on it now).

Now I’m tired again.  And my first “day off” is over 😦

Hopefully tomorrow will be more productive.

On a happier note…my friend Frank bought a salon!!!!  WOW–he’s a small business owner…doesn’t that sound so grown-up?  Sometimes I forget that I’m nearing 40 years old.  Gulp.

That’s a lot of bees

Thursday, May 20, 2010

The other day when Kimm was talking to her mom she found out that there was a honeybee’s nest in their basement.  Turns out that a beekeeper had to come to remove the nest which happened yesterday.  He vacuumed up (in a safe way) over 4 pounds of bees–which he estimated to be over 6000 bees.  WOW!  He got stung 5 times but said it didn’t bother him.  He also said that the nest was built pretty much in a few days.  Can you believe it?!  Those little buggers go to town when they are making a new home.

I am SO GLAD that was not at our house.  I don’t know if I could sleep in our house without a lot of fear, knowing that there was such a huge amount of bees inside the ceiling.

Now her parents have to call a carpenter to repair the ceiling that the beekeeper cut out to get the bees.

A very expensive couple of days for them.

Well, I made it through my first night back.  I’m tired and hitting the sack.
