Eating Right Again

Sunday, January 3, 2010

I don’t know what it is about the holidays, but they always bring out the “eating” monster in me.  I just want to EAT, EAT, EAT all of the good stuff!  Well, I finally got sick of it.  Too many sweet treats all at the same time.  So today was the start of eating better again…after a hop on the scale (it had been over a month!).  I guess I didn’t do too bad this year…only up 2.2 pounds.  Maybe it was all that walking with Izzy 🙂

So our meals were yummy today…more savory than sweet.  Lunch/brunch was scrambled eggs with green peppers, onions, and tomatoes, with a side of roasted potatoes and oatmeal toast with a touch of butter, with a glass of orange juice.  Dinner was baked mac and cheese, a veggie burger, and some veggies.  With a small slice of cherry pie with some vanilla ice cream on the side.  Yum-o!  And now I’m about to have a cup of hot chocolate since I’m freezing up here in the office!  Maybe one cookie on the side.  Not too shabby.

New Year’s Resolution #3–Try to eat better–follow the 80/20 rule…80% healthy, 20% indulgence. I always feel better when I eat better, so I want to make an honest effort to eat only when I’m hungry, eat what I’m craving, and to savor every bite.  Sometimes easier said than done. I was doing so good before Christmas!

Tomorrow is back to work already.  I swear the time goes by SO fast.

Change of Plans

Saturday, January 2, 2010

So I had planned to have a get-together with some of my co-workers tonight, but turns out pretty much everyone couldn’t make it at the last minute.

So instead of just completely doing nothing tonight, Kimm and I decided to go to the local theater and catch a movie.  We saw “Everybody’s Fine.”  It was pretty good–slow moving at times, but the overall plot was heart-warming.  Then I said, “Let’s go out to eat!” and so we stopped at Parthenon and had a sit-down meal (usually we just order pizza).  We tried two totally different entrees and both were very good–the baked ravioli and the pasta Primavera with garlic and olive oil.  Mmmmm.   We both agreed that the ravioli was some of the best we’ve ever had and we’re both extremely picky about ravioli.

So it turned out to be a very enjoyable evening.

Which brings me to another New Year’s resolution…

New Year’s Resolution #2–Have a date night with Kimm once a month. We don’t get to spend quality time really talking to each other and enjoying each other’s company nearly enough (even though we live together!).  Like everyone else, we get caught up in the monotony of every day life and I really want to keep our special connection.  I don’t think this will be a hard resolution to keep 🙂  Who doesn’t want to plan fun times out with the one they love?

Tomorrow my big plan is to go through all my piles of paperwork that have accumulated throughout the house during the holiday season.  Sounds fun, huh?
