Counting Calories

Sunday, August 23, 2009

I got on the scale this morning and was NOT happy with the results.  I’m pretty much back up to the weight where I had started at last year when I did “The Biggest Loser” at work (but thankfully not higher!)

So I decided to use Sparkpeople again.  So that means back to counting calories.

I generally don’t like to count calories.  It’s time consuming and irritating because you always think you can have more to eat than the calories allow!  But it helps you to realize what are proper portion sizes.

So I will do it again.  But I’m not going to beat myself up mentally if I don’t meet the goals every day.  I need to realize that some days that will entail more calories than others.  If I go over, I will just move on and continue fresh the next day.

Today I went way over my allowance because we went to the movies and of course got some popcorn/soda.  I don’t want to deprive myself (because that is usually which gets me to stop a diet altogether), so I ate what I normally do but just counted the calories.  When I saw how much it was (estimated), I was shocked.  So next time I think we’ll get the medium to share instead of the large.  And then maybe eventually we’ll be able to share a small.  It’s all about the small changes.

I’m hoping that by losing some weight, my back problems will go away.  I know it is part of the problem.  It’s difficult for the body to carry so much extra weight all the time.

Well, that’s all I’ll say about that.  I just wanted to put it in writing so I can be more accountable to myself.

Well one more thing.  I don’t really want to consider this to be a DIET.  I’ve been on more diets than I can think of.  And I just keep losing and gaining the same old weight.  It’s frustrating.  So instead, I just want to eat with a more healthy focus in mind.   I think I owe it to myself to take care of my body.
