SKUNK

Saturday, July 11, 2009

I know I haven’t mentioned it, but for the past few months, Kimm and I have noticed small little holes in the ground between the house and the garage.  We thought we had moles.

We were wrong.

Last night, when I was taking a little nap before work, Kimm noticed something moving outside in that area.  She looked outside and what did she see but a skunk.  And not your regular old black skunk with the white stripe.  Nope, this one was white with a black stripe.

Kind of looked like this little guy…nope, this is NOT our skunk…I don’t think I could get very close to get a picture!

While the skunk was moving around the yard, it was taking its nose and digging into the ground.  From doing some quick research, it turns out that skunks dig for grubs in the ground this way.  That’s why our lawn has all these holes!

Since the skunk was still around when I woke up Kimm of course had to show me.  It kind of freaked me out because I had to go to work in about an hour and I didn’t want the skunk out there then.  If I freaked it out, it could spray and believe me, I was not in the mood to be sprayed before work!

Thankfully when I left it was gone.

But now we have a problem.  We need to find a way to get rid of skunks.  When I looked it up online, one site said that a product that mimics the urine of the fox (the skunk’s natural enemy) would work.  I’m not sure.  I’m thinking I will have to do some more research on this.

Somehow I think this is a much more complex problem than our ants 🙂

Any ideas on how to get rid of skunks from anyone out there in blogland?  Any help would be appreciated.

Now, to bed…I’m exhausted (btw, it was so nice to just go in for 8 hours…the night was steady, but not horrible, so I feel not so bad).
