motley: exhibiting great diversity of elements

So today’s post is a hodge-podge of various stuff.

  • It is hard to believe that this weekend it was upwards of 60 degrees (wonderful!) and yet today it was sleeting and snowing–Kimm said that the highway was wicked slippery and that she saw at least four accidents.  I really can’t wait for spring to really be here.  I’m so impatient.
  • I made it through my three days on.  Like I said earlier, three days of working for most people probably doesn’t seem like anything, but when you are working for 12 hours, it really makes for a long three days.  I feel kind of cut off from the rest of the world during those times because I really only work, come home and eat breakfast, sleep, get up and take a shower, eat dinner and then leave for work again.  Not time for anything else really.  I know a lot of my co-workers sleep only 5-6 hours, but I could NEVER do that.  I need the 8 hours that I get.  I would prefer 9, but I do need time to shower and not scarf my dinner down.
  • Today when I was driving home I was craving some oatmeal for breakfast.  And I knew exactly what I wanted.  Oatmeal with apples.

In the mix:

1/2 cup old fashioned oats

1/2 cup water

pinch of salt

1/2 Red Delicious apple, cut in chunks, with skin left on

Cooked that for 2 minutes.

Then added:

dash of cinnamon

sprinkle of raisins (by the way I bought some Dole raisins–so moist and plump and way better than the Sunmaid)

some brown sugar

half and half (so indulgent!)

Let me tell you–this was so good.  Seriously tasted like dessert.  Will definitely do this one again–probably tomorrow!

  • We went to BJs tonight for our monthly excursion (it is a bulk food/misc warehouse).  We try to go just once a month because it can get quite costly buying stuff there.  But we generally do save money in the long run.  We found some new things–granola and honey (which is really good because Kimm really likes to have her yogurt and granola and honey combo that I turned her on to!), Arnold’s Whole Grain bread, four and sugar in bulk (for baking), and a rake (whoo whoo!  our first purchase to help take care of the yard!).  The rest was just our normal stuff–Diet Pepsi (two 36 packs), Boboli mini pizza crusts (8 pack), Plax, Land ‘O Lake American Cheese  (much cheaper than at Stop and Shop–approx $3 less per pound!–we get a pound and it lasts pretty much all month), Ranch dressing, and then also some things which we get infrequently–multivitamins, calcium pills.  Came to $145.  More than we usually spend–we like to keep it about $100 but the vitamins and rake put us over.
  • Can I just say how much I LOVE cashews!!!  I am snacking on some now as I write this post.  They are my favorite nut.  I remember as a child loving Caramel Cashew frozen yogurt that we would get at the ice cream place.  Mmmm.
  • Last night at work I was playing on my iphone, and on my Stanza (book reader) I found my beloved Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery!  I read a few chapters in between doing work.  That will really pass the slow time at work.
  • Madeline STILL has not been letting us sleep much.  I really don’t know what is going on with that cat.  It’s very frustrating.  But tonight I put the comforter set on the bed in the basement, hoping that by having something to lay on, she would be more content.  And I think that we are going to leave some food down all night so that she can just go to it.  We never wanted to do that because she tends to eat and eat and eat!  But we REALLY need some sleep and we really don’t want to lock her in the bathroom all the time. So far so good–she has been on the bed since it has been made up.  All we can do is cross our fingers!
  • I have a pretty open day for tomorrow.  Not really anything planned.  Maybe I will try making a new recipe or doing some baking.
  • Can you believe that March is about one third over??
  • We’re coming up on my one year anniversary of blogging–I started this blog on March 20, 2008!
