The White Stuff

Yep, that’s right, we have snow.  And let me tell you, I’m not a huge fan of snow, especially when you have to shovel it.  Sure I love a nice snow when I’m snuggled inside my house, relaxing, maybe having a cup of hot cocoa, with no cares or worries in the world (translation: I don’t have to work that night).  But for this particular snowstorm that was not the case.

Since I got cancelled for the first four hours of my shift yesterday, and the snow started around 5 pm of the same day, I had to go out and clean my car off prior to going to work.  Thankfully it was a light, fluffy snow and had only accumulated about one inch at that point.  That was the easy part.

Fast forward to this morning, about 7:15 am when I exit work.  Oh yeah, the predicted 5 inches was accurate.  And it was no longer light and fluffy, but HEAVY!  Cleaned the car off and headed home on the highway, which incidently had NOT yet been plowed.  I find this to be incredibly crazy.  It was dangerous.  First, you couldn’t even see the lines in the road to know what lane you were in.  Second, it was super slippery.  And lastly, don’t cities have BUDGETS that include snow removal????

Anyways, to make a long story short, I got home, and then had to shovel the VERY long driveway, which as you might recall, was still covered with ice.  It took about an hour and I was exhausted when done.  I didn’t even have time or energy to get the other side or my sweetie’s car cleaned off.  She did that (another hour of work for her) while I slept.

So I was SO hoping that I would be cancelled again for the first four hours of my shift, but no such luck.  Why is it when you really are hoping for something it never happens?  So now I have an hour before I have to go to work and I didn’t get much sleep today (woke up at 2:30 and was unable to get back to sleep).  So it’s going to be a long night.  Bring on the coffee.  The good thing is that no additional white stuff has fallen since this morning.  We have to be thankful for the little things, right?
