Blogs

So not only is it fun to blog (great way to share information about what’s going on to those people in my life who I KNOW read my blog–although it is kind of strange to know that I have had over 2,000 page views and they can’t ALL be from people who I know…so who really is reading this blog?? hmmm…something to ponder on)–oh yeah back to my original thought (!)–not only is it fun to blog, but it is also really fun to read other blogs.

I first found out about blogging due to a close friend of mine from college who I had lost touch with over the years.  I used the handy-dandy internet to try to find out where he was and for a long time, NA-DA.  But then one day when I was doing a google search, I came across a blog titled Frank Notes.  I accessed the page, and lo and behold, there was an online diary of sorts of what was going on in my friends life.  I GOBBLED it up!  I started reading all of his archives and finding out what had happened with him since we had last been in touch.  Because we had been out of contact for so long, I have to admit I was a bit nervous about just leaving a comment saying, “Hi…oh and by the way I’ve been spying on your personal life now for a few weeks!”  But then at one point he sent out a message (on his blog, of course!) that he wanted to hear from some of the lurkers in internet land who were frequenting his blog.  I thought it was a perfect opportunity to reveal myself.  Although we had to kind of re-hash why we had fallen out of touch (in a nutshell, MY fault…one of my biggest regrets in my life because it meant I missed having a great person in my life for so many years), we eventually started talking again.  Kimm and I even went out to visit him and his partner and his new son this last year–lots of fun!  And even though we live in two different states (him California, and me Massachusetts, which if you didn’t know are THREE hours apart!) I can still feel like I know what’s going on with his life through his blog when we don’t have time to actually talk.

And after starting to read his blog, I then started to search for other blogs to read.  Right now I have a few that I read religiously (a few of my favorites are The Simple Dollar, Black Coffee and a Donut, and Smitten Kitchen).  But I have to admit my favorite is still Frank Notes.

Yet, I’m always on the lookout for a new blog to read.  But it’s tougher than you might think!  Sometimes I’ll start reading a blog and think that I really like it, but then after a week or two I find it boring, or the writing style stupid, or the person goes on and on about nothing.  It really is all about personal taste.  But I did happen to find another blog today which I’m going to start reading called Bacon is My Enemy.  I found it through CNN–I guess this blogger was trying to put herself a little more “out there” with her new year’s resolution to lose weight and uploaded a video saying as much.  Well turns out CNN Online contacted her to interview her and her story made the “top 10” of health stories and now she’s definitely more well known!  I read the last ten blog entries of hers and find her to be absolutely HILARIOUS!  And since I also want to add more humor to my life, I thought she’d be an excellent blog to add to my Google Reader.

I would love to hear from others what blogs they read?  Anyone?  Anyone?  Or are the only people that read my blog my parents and Kimm, just logging on multiple times 🙂  Anyways, happy blog reading, even to the lurkers!
